Join Self Help Graphics’ Barrio Mobile Art Studio team at Mile 21 (6th Street Viaduct) for an interactive art workshop on Saturday, August 12 from 6:00 p.m.-7:30 p.m. (Hollenbeck Park), as part of the LA River Public Art Project River Sessions; a series of guided walks that explores the art, culture, histories, and communities along the 51 miles of the The LA River. Workshop participants will learn to create eco-friendly natural dyes for watercolor painting. Register and learn more here.

The Mile 21 River Sessions event will be an immersive exploration of the vibrant Sixth Street Viaduct, an iconic bridge that connects the downtown arts district with the historic bungalows of East Los Angeles; followed by a short walk to Hollenbeck Park, where the art workshop will take place.

River Sessions are guided by Indigenous Culture Bearers, artists, creative ecologists, historians, and curators. During our walks, we may visit former Tongva village sites, existing and ongoing public art projects, local cultural organizations, and riverside research and art studios. Each session begins at a new  mile of the River and each offers a new experience; a hands-on workshop, a deep listening session with artists, or a flash mob of dance, music, or theater may emerge, delighting us before they vanish around the bend- living in the moment just like the River. Learn more about the LA River Art Project here.
