Querida Comunidad, “¡Si puedes soñarlo, puedes lograrlo!” As we move from spring to summer, we are reminded that growth often begins in the hardest soil. In a time when arts communities face disinvestment and uncertainty we hold fast to our roots and our purpose. At Self Help Graphics & Art, the seeds we've planted—through struggle, vision, and collective care—are now blossoming in bold and beautiful ways. Each bloom is a reminder: our culture is power, our creativity is resistance, and our community will continue to rise. Thank you for being part of this journey. Whether you are an artist, a donor, a neighbor, or a longtime supporter, your belief in Self Help Graphics fuels our growth. Together, we continue to imagine and build a future rooted in culture, resilience, and collective joy. In solidarity, Paulina M Flores, Interim Executive Director

Self Help Graphics & Art is honored to be one of ten Los Angeles-based organizations awarded a 2025 Infinite Expansion Grant from the Mike Kelley Foundation for the Arts. This new grant program supports ambitious artist-led projects that demonstrate a strong commitment to critical thinking, innovation, and deep community engagement. With this grant, Self Help Graphics will present Between and Before, Angeleno and American, a printmaking residency and exhibition project curated by fourth-generation Angeleno Devon Tsuno, whose work focuses on the Japanese American experience. Taking place in our print studio in 2026, the residency will bring together up to six multicultural and multidisciplinary artists including Aaron Estrada, Dane Nakama, Mylee Etuale, and Teresa Baker to explore Los Angeles as a site of diaspora, migration, and memory. Thank you to the Mike Kelley Foundation for championing place-based storytelling and visionary artists who expand what is possible.

Co-curators Marvella Muro and Sandra de la Loza along with the artists featured in Pachucxs Revisited posing for a picture. We are proud to celebrate the success of Pachucxs Revisited, a groundbreaking exhibition that honored the enduring legacy of the Pachucx. Co-curated by Marvella Muro and Sandra de la Loza, this exhibition brought together ten incredible artists whose work reimagined and paid tribute to the spirit of defiance, resilience, and self-expression that the Pachucx represents. The exhibition featured works by Janeth Aparicio, Judy Baca, Yreina Cervantez, Amina Cruz, Ester Hernandez, Jackie Hernandez “Chicas Peligrosas,” Priscilla Hernandez, Sandra de la Loza, Melba Martinez, and Jaklin Romine, whose bold perspectives address the intersections of culture, identity, and resistance. We extend our deepest gratitude to the Pasadena Arts Alliance, the Mike Curb College of Arts, Media, and Communication, the Instructionally Related Activities Committee, and the Arts Council for CSUN for their generous support in making this exhibition possible. To everyone who engaged—thank you for keeping the legacy of the Pachucx alive!

We’re excited to share that construction is officially underway at Self Help Graphics & Art! After the long-anticipated permit approval in early January, 2025 kicked off with strong momentum. Since then, we’ve been moving full steam ahead. We are making meaningful progress on the building’s structural foundation and systems that will support a more accessible and welcoming space for all. As with any major renovation, we’ve encountered a few surprises along the way. But thanks to the dedication, collaboration, and creativity of our team and partners, we’ve continued to move forward with care and intention. We can’t wait to welcome you back into a renewed space that reflects the heart of Self Help Graphics & Art. We are establishing strong roots to provide a space rooted in history, shaped by artists, and built for the future.
