Self Help Graphics & Art

THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING OUR 49TH ANNUAL
DÍA DE LOS MUERTOS SEASON

A Boyle Heights sunset illuminates Danza Chicomecoatl as they led our annual Día de los Muertos procession from Mariachi Plaza, to Self Help Graphics on November 5.

FILL OUT OUR DÍA DE LOS MUERTOS SURVEY

On behalf of the team at Self Help Graphics & Art, we want to share our gratitude for your support of our Día de los Muertos season– an annual Eastside tradition for nearly 50 years! If you attended any of this year’s programs, workshops or events; such as our Celebration, Noche de Ofrenda, exhibition or workshops, please consider filling out this survey and enter to win a 2022 Día de los Muertos t-shirt or tote bag!

This is the time of year when artists, neighbors, friends, families and our comadre and compadre networks give back at Self Help Graphics and we feel the love!

We are so grateful to all who showed up to make paper flowers, papel picado, paper cut-out altars, paper maché calacas and created heartfelt ofrendas in our space! You helped us to make this season meaningful and positive.

FILL OUT OUR DÍA DE LOS MUERTOS SURVEY

The season also brought forth some wonderful experiences, like Noche de Ofrenda on November 2 where we payed homage to artists Amos Menjivar and Noni Olabisi, and shared palabra, spoken word, live music and art making. On this night we debuted altars, dedicated to people and causes that matter to our community to a packed house! Our ofrendas will be up through this Saturday, November 12 during our Family Workshop from 1:00 p.m.-2:30 p.m.

We also want to give a huge shout-out to our Celebration Muertos Market artists and artisans and food vendors who nourished us with cultura, arte and the sabores of our neighborhood.

Special thanks as well to our Día de los Muertos Celebration co-hosts SHG Youth Artivist, Dani Marin and ABC7 reporter, Eric Resendiz; plus our dynamic lineup of performing artists La Mera Candelaria, Spaghetti Cumbia and Aztlan Underground, who elevated the evening with music for the soul that kept us dancing and in the spirit of the season! Our stage was curated by Self Help Graphics and The Paramount, so please check them out too.

And Finally, mil gracias to all of YOU who arrived impassioned and ready to enjoy our Celebration and all of its offerings! Thousands came out from near and far in what was a full house, and it’s because of our commUNITY that Día de los Muertos continues to be a long standing and much anticipated tradition from our casita in Boyle Heights, to yours! To continue to support our organization and programs like Día de los Muertos, text DOD2022 to 41444. Read our blog for upcoming Celebration highlights coming soon!!
