State of California
Allocates $4 Million to
Self Help Graphics

We have affirming news gente! After eight years advocating for funding for a state-of-the-art, community art center on the Eastside, we are elated to share that through the support of our representatives, California State Senator, Maria Elena Durazo (24th District), and California Assembly Member, Miguel Santiago (53rd District), Self Help Graphics & Art will receive funding in the amount of $4 million dollars in the new state budget toward the renovation of our building in Boyle Heights. See SHG Executive Director, Betty Avila’s video statement here.

Earlier in June, we broke the news that Philanthropist and Author, MacKenzie Scott, made a donation of $1 million dollars to SHG. Read more about this great news as well on our blog here.

The exhibition, curated originally as a virtual experience on our blog by our recent Youth Committee, highlights individual youth voices who care strongly about identity, race, culture, and gender, many through the lens of social justice. Support our
Capital Campaign

The funds allocated in the California State budget for Self Help Graphics & Art will support the renovation of our building, a 110+ year old fish-packing plant. Beyond our renovation efforts, Self Help Graphics will continue to advocate for our permanence by working toward paying off the building that was purchased in 2018. Will you help us get to the finish line? Text “SHGCC” to 91999 to donate to support our Capital Campaign or donate online. Thank you!
