Dear Self Help Graphics Familia,
It’s a special time of year at SHG as we embrace the fall season and kick off a series of exciting events, from our PST ART exhibition to Día de los Muertos, and prepare for the holidays! In September we launched our PST ART: Art & Science Collide exhibit, Sinks: Places We Call Home, at Cal State LA which curator Marvella Muro and artists, Beatriz Jaramillo and Maru Garcia, crafted as an artistic response to the environmental injustices that have plagued SHG’s community of Boyle Heights and surrounding neighborhoods for decades. Alongside this, we unveiled Heritage, an AR accompaniment created by SoLa Foundation youth to reimagine greener, healthier communities at Magic Johnson Park in South LA.

This month, we commenced our 51st Annual Día de los Muertos season with the unveiling of our beautiful commemorative print titled Antepasados y Memoria, 2024 by legendary Curator, Author and Visual Artist, Amalia Mesa-Bains on view at Tonalli Studio as part of their Vida Magica Portals of Connection exhibit, as well as our Family Workshops every Saturday in October at the East LA County Library; and finally we’re looking forward to our culminating Celebration on November 2 at LA County’s Civic Center Park in East LA with our procession on the Metro led by Mujeres de Maiz, altares, face painting, our Muertos Market, live entertainment y mucho más!

At Self Help Graphics, everything we do—from exhibitions and workshops to community programs—nurtures a sense of home and celebrates our cultura.
When we create altares for our loved ones, we come home to our roots.
When an artist walks into our serigraph studio and prepares to work with our master printer, they come home to rediscover their passions.
When an abuela creates crafts with her granddaughter at our family workshops, they create new memories and traditions and connect to their community home, together. Every day our work affirms what we’ve always known—que la cultura cura. Self Help Graphics is an artistic home for many, spanning generations.
