HAPPY NEW YEAR!
NEW WORKSHOPS & EXHIBITS AT SELF HELP GRAPHICS…

Mari Cardenas: Colores de Valor curator, endy trece and artist Mari Cardenas, will be in conversation next month at SHG on Saturday, February 4 at 2:00 p.m. The program will offer an intimate look at Mari’s practice, artistic inspirations, and her work at Self Help Graphics from the 70s to 80s.

The Colores de Valor conversation is offered in conjunction with Mari’s solo exhibition, currently on view through February 17, 2023.

 RSVP 2/4 ARTIST TALK

Mari Cardenas: Colores de Valor presents a selection of prints and paintings from over 50 years of Mari's artistic practice.

Mari is a legacy artist who found her creative home and supportive friends at SHG during a time when there was little access to the art world for women, especially women of color, later becoming part of the SHG staff. Now in her nineties, Mari continues to paint even though she has experienced macular degeneration in her eyes for years and has been declared legally blind, not allowing anything to stop her colores de valor.

“We all had to start at our kitchen table, and Self Help Graphics provided the friendships I needed to go out in the world and be part of an artist community as an artist and worker." –Mari Cardenas

“They are Ni Santas, Ni Putas, Solo Mujeres”. – Rotmi Enciso (Photo credit: Ni Santas).

 RSVP EXHIBITION

Muñecas de Cartón presents the intentional, yet spontaneous, joint effort between women artists to create, be heard, and be seen. The title is derived from the collective's extensive use of cardboard as their medium and the ephemeral context in which the work was created–– site and event specific. Learn more here.
